But, iOn's range is only 130km and Joule is capable of twice that. UK reviewers have said it's a barely disguised version of Mitsubishi's i-MiEV, which is perhaps understandable when you consider that it was developed in cooperation with Mitsubishi Motor Corporation (MMC). However, the iOn is also a zero-emissions car and has a recharge time of six hours; furthermore, it can be charged to 80 per cent capacity within just half an hour.

In the UK, Peugeot opted not to sell iOn directly to consumers but offered an "all-inclusive" mobility package (£415 ex VAT per month) that allowed consumers to benefit from a special government subsidy. As there is no such subsidy in place in South Africa, pricing has yet to be determined.

The only obvious advantage that the iOn has over SA's Joule is its soon-to-be availability. The fact that this is the only obvious advantage is testament to Optimal Energy's dedication to creating a top-notch product. The Peugeot 407 is a large family car produced by the French manufacturer Peugeot since 2004.

The 407 was the successor to the hugely successful Peugeot 406, and was launched on May 27, 2004 after first being presented in concept car form with the name "407 Elixir" at the 2003 Frankfurt

Motor Show. The streamlined design of the car was seen as quite radical, its most distinctive features being its large front grille and the steeply raked screen pillars.

The production 407 is available in sedan, coupé and station wagon/estate variants. The station wagon, known as the 407 SW, was launched four months after the sedan, whereas the coupé will be put on sale in early 2006. Peugeot's sale forecast for the 207 SW:
Peugeot is expecting that the first full year of 2008, the 207 SW would at least contribute 18 percent or 98,000 units of the total sales of the 207 models. The breakdown of sales will be--petrol to contribute 44 percent and diesel to put in 56 percent.

Commercial launches
The 207 SW will be simultaneously introduced in July 5, 2007 in France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, and Portugal but will be made available in July 12 in Germany. For the other European markets the vehicle will be launch in September.

The advantage of the 207 SW is that it will be entering a market segment that is continuously growing, increasing from 26.2 percent of the total European market to 30.5 percent. The model mix has also changed significantly during this time. The hatchback models has decreased from 95 percent of the B2 segment in 2000 to 82.4 percent in 2006 on the other hand the people carrier models have increased from 1.8 percent to 12 percent, cabriolets have also rose from 0.1 percent to 2.8 percent while estates remained steady at 3 percent with only a slight increase to 3.6 percent last 2004.

With Citroen, Peugeot RC HYmotion4 is a field that is increasingly cluttered with hybrid concepts using a new system that can take the road to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. Fortunately for Peugeot, they have managed not just recycle or rebadge an existing model, but have incorporated this technology into an boldly attractive four door GT coupe.

Peugeot has joined sister-brand Citroen by releasing a concept vehicle based on the new HYmotion4 AWD hybrid system. The new concept is according to Peugeot, a ‘Touring Car Coupe’ that features a number of engineering and technological ideas expected to make their way, if only gradually, into both of the carmaker’s future production models. Unlike the hybrid systems used by current production vehicles, this concept has no direct mechanical connection between the electric and internal combustion drive systems. This way, the RC can operate in either rear, front, or all-wheel-drive modes. That means it can also operate using internal combustion, electric only or blended mode combining both. Propelling this concept is a rear mounted turbocharged 1.6 liter engine driving the rear wheels and producing 218 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. Up front, an electric motor provides up to another 132 lb-ft of torque and provides a governed combined production of 313 horsepower. This sort of power pays of with acceleration to 62 mph in a mere 4.4 seconds. The electrons are stored in a lithium-ion battery pack of an as unreleased size, but having the electric motor at the front instead of the rear axle means that more kinetic energy can be recaptured through the regenerative braking process. According to Peugeot, the RC can get 52.3 mpg with a minimum output of just 109 g/km of CO2 emissions.

Other Hymotion4 concepts in the mix for the future include Peugeot’s Prologue, which previews an upcoming 3008 crossover, as well as the Citroen Hypnos and C4 WRC rally car. These concepts, according to the manufacturer, are a synthesis of ideas that demonstrate a commitment to both respecting the environment and driving pleasure. If all of the technology that is used within this concept lives up to the manufacturer claims, the French may have the inside track in future hybrid production.
