McLaren LM5 Concept with BMW V10: Design Study for a Spiritual Successor to the F1

McLaren LM5 Concept with BMW V10: Design Study for a Spiritual Successor to the F1

Only time will tell if the styling of the new McLaren MP4-12C will age well and look relevant years later, as the firm's chief designer Frank Stephenson hopes it will, but for now, most seem to agree that the British supercar's looks are unexciting - maybe even generic, especially when compared to the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia. That doesn't seem to be the case though with this conceptual proposal for a flagship McLaren supercar from Matt Williams, a graduate of Coventry University's Transportation Design degree program.

William's, who created the LM5 as part of his final year project, designed the mid-engined supercar to sit atop the MP4-12C essentially playing the role of the F1's spiritual successor.

Not surprisingly, the F1 inspired the design of the LM5 which retains the same three-seat layout as the original model with the driver in the middle and two passengers on either side. However, the LM5 has its own distinct and rather aggressive styling personality (unlike the MP4-12C...)

In theory, the LM5 was designed to be powered by a massaged version of the BMW M5 / M6 5.0-liter V10 - apparently paying homage to the original F1 that sported a BMW M Division sourced and developed V12 engine.

2011 Alfa Romeo Giulia: 159's Successor Illustrated

2011 Alfa Romeo Giulia: 159's Successor Illustrated

What you see pictured above is an artist's impression of the Alfa Romeo 159 replacement that is reported to revive the Giulia nameplate as the Italians are swapping their current system of numeric names for more personal ones (e.g. the 147's successor will be named Milano). The CGI, courtesy of Motorionline, is apparently more of a wild guess on the Guilia's styling than anything else, but in any case, we'll let you decide if you like it or not.

The Giulia, which isn't expected to surface on the market before the second half of 2011, will make use of Fiat Group's new versatile C-Evo platform that will also underpins the forthcoming Milano hatchback.

And yes, unfortunately this means that the Giulia will not make the transition to rear-wheel drive. Instead, Alfa's 3-Series challenger will be offered with front-wheel drive with the option of the Italian firm's Q4 four-wheel drive system.

It's too early for any official information on the engine range, but we suspect that the Giulia will most likely be offered with Alfa's 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol as well as with a V6 petrol and numerous turbo diesels.

And how about a GTA variant? Well, that's a tough one especially since Alfa abandoned its plans for a 'hot' 159, but hopefully the Italian automaker will make it up with the presentation of the Giulia GTA.

Nissan's Forthcoming All-Electric Hatchback Rendered

Nissan's Forthcoming All-Electric Hatchback Rendered

On Sunday, 2nd August, Nissan will reveal its new global electric vehicle to the media at the company's new headquarters in Yokahama, Japan. We've already shown you a couple of teaser shots released by Nissan, but today we found a new rendering of the dedicated EV that was created by the crew over at Japan's Best Car magazine. Judging by the teaser photos, the CGI shouldn't be too off from the actual production model. For more detailed information on Nissan's upcoming EV

BMW M Supercar Concept: A Stunning Proposal for an Audi R8 Rival

BMW M Supercar Concept: A Stunning Proposal for an Audi R8 Rival

BMW M Supercar Concept id=It's been three decades since BMW produced its first and last mid-engined supercar, the M1, and even though the Bavarian firm raised expectations with the introduction of the M1 Homage Concept at last year's Concorso d'Eleganza, the company has no official plans to resurrect the famous nameplate. But for those that continue to hope that BMW will produce a thoroughbred sports car in the near future, South African designer Idres Noah has created a striking concept proposal for an Audi R8-rivaling bimmer.

Despite the fact that we see some styling influences from the M1 Homage Concept, Idries' concept study has its own character. By far the best parts of the design are the supercar's kinky profile and especially the rear end which is hotter than Eva Mendez in a Brazilian bikini holding her hands between her thighs... The front-end design on the other hand could do with some work, but overall, we lift our hat to Idries Noah and hope we see more design proposals in the future.

Russian Designer Creates Supercar Fusing Lamborghini Reventon and Pagani Zonda Cues

Russian Designer Creates Supercar Fusing Lamborghini Reventon and Pagani Zonda Cues

Or at least those are the first two cars that popped into mind upon seeing Russian designer Krasnov Igor's latest creation, the Marussia supercar. More specifically, we see the front end design and hard lines of the Lamborghini Reventon fused into a shape that closely resembles that of the Pagani Zonda topped with futuristic styling elements like the dramatic rear end with the massive but weirdly enough, eye-catching jet-inspired 'afterburners' that house the tail lights. Follow the jump to check out the full image gallery and tell us what you think about Krasnov's concept supercar.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Hatch Concept Study

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Hatch Concept Study

Needless to say, it doesn't take much effort to come up with a better design than Subaru's original Impreza hatch, but that wouldn't be fair to the creator of this independent concept study. This realistic computer generated proposal for a more distinct and sporty-looking Impreza WRX STI with a wedgy-shaped three-door hatchback body is the work of an artist that goes by the alias 'Grid'. Please tell us what you think about the study by leaving a comment below.

Lamborghini, Ferrari and BMW Sportscar Concept Studies by Iranian Designer Emil Baddal

Lamborghini, Ferrari and BMW Sportscar Concept Studies by Iranian Designer Emil Baddal

Remember the collective Iranian concept studies that we showed you back in April? Well, we found yet another designer with potential from the Middle Eastern country. His name is Emil Baddal and we picked out three illustrations from his portfolio that caught our attention. The designs proposals are for a Lamborghini, a Ferrari and a BMW supercar. We reckon that all three studies could benefit from some tweaks here and there, but overall not a bad attempt at all.
